I am conducting the choir; I serve as Associate Professor, teaching Methods and Materials of Jewish Music Education, Conducting, and I conduct the student ensemble.
The Cantorial profession is a fulfilling and meaningful life. A Cantor is both an ordained clergy person and a serious musician. The Cantor’s main goals are to lead the congregation in prayer and to teach Jewish values and Jewish identity using Jewish musical resources and materials.
The Cantor also trains children for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebrations, officiates at weddings and funerals, visits the sick in hospitals, and becomes a Jewish musical resource person for the entire community. I did this work for 42 years before becoming and academic, and my life was fulfilling in every possible way.
