Unfortunately there are no totally free music schools. When you apply to university-level programs, you may be considered for financial aid and/or scholarships based on your academic and music proficiencies as well as your family’s income and financial need. Each school is different so be sure to check their cost of attendance and financial aid/scholarship information on their websites and contact the financial aid offices as needed.

We just finished the audition process with my daughter. The time to bring your questions is when you have your teacher visit or campus tour. Auditions are kept to a very strict schedule and there is little to no conversation with the faculty at that time.

I am currently studying flute performance at a state school with a small but strong music department. I wish that I had thought deeper about the best school for me, because it took until the middle of my sophomore year in college to realize that this was where I was meant to be. (I started at a community college and only really considered transferring to a big conservatory).
